She's been tugging on our emotions forever, so much so that I was about ready to rename her April the Gingiraffe, but today she is showing clear signs that the little rugrats are on the way. Will it be today? Tonight? Tomorrow? When we know, you'll know; but the time is nigh.

I needed to fix the network switch at the top of our little hill yesterday. On my walk up the hill, and down the hill, and up the hill, and (well 3 trips...) I was really paying attention to the plants. We try to harvest whatever we can from our own property for use in our products, so I'm always on the lookout. My 3 trips up and down the hill covered about 2700 square feet (or about the same as a 3 bed 2 bath suburban home) and in just that much space, I found so many amazing things.

Our ranch is about 26.5 acres (or around 1.1 MILLION square feet), imagine how many wonderful plants, animals, birds, and bugs YOU could find.

Did you know that goats can see 340 degrees at the same time? Like, seriously panoramic vision. They have left vision, right vision, and stereoscopic vision to the front. What that means is that they see everything. Even when you think they aren't looking, they're watching...

Dixie has decided it's time to graze. Dixie doesn't feel like waiting until we are ready. Dixie has been watching and seems to have figured out the gate latch. The good news is that she hasn't figured out how to pull the gate to open it while she's standing on it to reach the latch. (And nobody better tell her...)

There's an old saying, "A man who has no problems should get a goat."

Well, maybe not EXACTLY based on our adventures, but definitely themed after our ranch, brand, and animals. We have a children's book series called "Gruff Tales" by various authors like Silas Grant, Mandy Wells, and M.M. Morrison.

Have you ever been to a casino, or a horse race, or even a football game? You're so sure of your belief in the outcome that you're willing to risk your very own, hard-earned, cash to prove it. Then you lose, you were wrong... You can't admit it, it was bad referees, the jockey ate too much, the dealer dealt from the bottom of the deck; anything other than you were wrong. Two months later, you're complaining about the event (again) and you're buddy calls you out on it. Finally, you admit it, you were wrong.

Well, for us here at PG Ranch, today is that day. Ginger, being Ginger, fooled us. While we know she was bred for a due date of mid-to-late July, she was having contractions at the right time for us to believe that our attempts at AI had been successful. The evidence of her gigantic belly, softened tail ligaments, and engorged udder, combined with those (now recognized as Braxton-Hicks) contractions fooled us. We are failures at AI, we're ok with that because now we have Poppa, the best danged little buck. But, for those of you (and us) anxiously awaiting some new kids... we're still 5 weeks from Gingy and 6 weeks from Sailer's due dates. If anything changes, we'll let you know.

Well, it's been hot... like H-O-T.. not Arizona hot, but too danged hot for Montana. We've got the AC installed in the store, the fans running in the barn and coop, and water aplenty available for the animals. 

We've invested in NoFence brand electronic collars for the goats and the cows. So far they're 'alright'. There are some real flaws with the system for our needs, but they have been a pretty good addition overall.

And, our sweet Ginger is soooo huge. She's actually due today, so we're on kid watch. We'll provide updates and photos after she kids. We can't wait to share the excitement with you!
